Scot Picts

A view of Hopeman from the coastal trail that runs from Burghead, past Cummingston to Hopeman.  Although a nice day, the sea was still rough from wild weather that had just passed by.

The photo was taken on the pier at the village of Findhorn.  Dusk was gathering and the sun reflects off the clear water in the bay through breaks in the cloud.   Findhorn bay is a popular spot for sailing, and seals can often be seen resting on the sandbanks at the mouth of the bay.  For more information on Findhorn visit Forres Community Website

This is the East Beach at Lossiemouth in Moray. In the foreground is the river Lossie, which meets the sea here. A surfer is just visible in the centre of the photo, enjoying the waves which break dramatically on the shore.

This photo shows the cliffs that tower over the single track road on the approach to the Mull of Galloway.  Although somewhat interesting if you meet a caravan or large vehicle the drive in from the village of Drummore is well worth the views that await you!  Apart from the lighthouse and (now redundant) foghorn the Mull of Galloway is home to a R.S.P.B. reserve, whose visitor centre is free to get into, and it also boasts a rather good tearoom.

Spey Bay on the Moray Coast where dolphins and whales are often to be seen, not today though as conditions were somewhat rough for dophin spotting!  Click for Aardvark Map

The sun is sparkling off the sea looking over the bay at Burghead towards Ben Rinnes in the background.  If you look carefully you may be able to make out the 'tank traps' on the beach - a relic of World War Two Normandy landings practice, now fortunately more often used as a handy table to enjoy a picnic on the beach.

A fabulously sunny day on the Moray Coast.  Hopeman village can be seen in the distance, and a yacht sails out to sea.

A beautiful day at Cummingston Bay

This photo was taken from the headland at Burghead, as the sun was going down.  The headland is home to an ancient Pictish settlement and well worth a visit should you be in the area.

The rocks at Cummingston when the tide is out show up almost red in the midday sun in this picture.

The Killantringan Lighthouse in Galloway, this distinctive lighthouse sits on the clifftops overlooking Killantringan bay, a lovely quiet, sandy beach, perfect for a picnic.  You reach it from a single track unclassified road that is off the B738, just north of the village of Portpatrick.

Looking in the other direction from the lighthouse shows the clifftops, on which sheep are grazing peacefully.  There is a coastal walk along this area, starting from nearby Portpatrick.  You can make it a circular walk by following the single track road onto the B738 and back down to Portpatrick.  Look out for the entrance to Dunskie estate where you can continue you walk offroad.
